British Swim School Expands, Adds New Florida Location
Drowning is one of the leading causes of death, causing 360,000 deaths in 2015. Given this, knowing how to swim is an important survival skill. Many parents enroll their babies in swim lessons so they can learn essential skills at a young age.
Despite being close to the ocean, Florida is lacking in swim programs. That’s why the husband and wife owners of British Swim School in Coral Springs have decided to open another franchise in eastern Florida, in Fort Lauderdale. British Swim School has been offering swim lessons for more than 34 years. It teaches skills to children as young as 3 months old.
The couple decided to get involved with British Swim School after the success of their oldest son, who was enrolled in the school’s lessons. They liked the family environment of Coral Springs and started their first franchise there. They found out that many clients had to travel west to attend their school, so they decided that there would be a solid market in the east, which is why they decided to open a second location in Ft. Lauderdale. The new franchise is located at LA Fitness, at 6501 North Andrews Avenue.
The couple hopes to save even more lives, as studies show that swim programs can reduce the risk of drowning by as much as 88 percent. The two-step curriculum at British Swim School is open to children and adults of all ages. The school teaches water safety, survival skills and development of swimming skills.
British Swim School offers a unique water safety program. It teaches out of hotel pools and fitness centers. Each child is placed in a program based on their skill level. The school operates in 21 states and close to 200 locations.
Is Franchising the Right Opportunity for You?
Franchising may be the right opportunity for you if you want to own your own business, but don’t want to start one from scratch. More than 2,500 companies offer franchising opportunities, which can be found in fast food, hotels, auto repair, hair salons, tax services and recreation.
Franchising can still be a huge investment. The average investment is $250,000, not including real estate costs. There are also fees to consider. Franchisees must pay monthly fees to the franchisor, ranging from 3-6 percent of monthly gross sales. There are also contracts to consider, which means you could be locked in for 10 years or longer. These are some of the downsides to consider.
There are benefits to owning a franchise as well. You get a lot of business support and training. You get an established brand with customers, so not much marketing is required. You also get access to suppliers and proprietary methods. You get to be the boss and make as much money as you can. The sky’s the limit!
